At Studio42dance, we’re proud to offer a vast range of dance classes in an array of different styles. Our classes are open to anyone from the age of two all the way up to adults and are always loads of fun! We pride ourselves on always being fair and giving our students the freedom and support they need to express themselves through performing, especially dance.

We offer general dance classes that are set around age groups rather than skill level. The class names (Beginners, Seniors etc) is an indication of the age group and not of the skill level of the student. All age classes have their base in Jazz and it’s different forms such as Broadway, Latin, classical jazz, funk, Bollywood and more! Anything is possible! Classes explore body movement and encourage individual expression and the development of each student’s personal style. Turns, leaps and progressions are included at appropriate and safe age levels. These classes cover basic dance technique and are intended as a foundation class. We highly recommend that students attend this class in addition to any other classes in our other styles. Combination Classes at Studio42

Ballet Classes at Studio42 Classical Ballet is an old, much-loved style of dance that we all associate with pointe shoes, tutus, arabesques and pirouettes. And it IS all these things… but it is also so much more. It is an expressive and creative art form that trains a dancer to move with grace, strength, precision, extension, agility, and control.  Ballet can be slow, ethereal and graceful, or fast, dramatic and athletic, but it is always wonderful!

Ballet classes are arranged roughly by the children’s age, with exercises tailored to increase in complexity with experience. The Adagio ballet class requires some degree of dance experience, (though not necessarily ballet), so if unsure please discuss your choice with Alison.

Derived from Ballet and Modern technique, Contemporary is a style that allows us to explore the myriad possibilities and qualities of movement and the expressiveness that can be achieved through dance. If you love leaping, twirling, rolling around on the floor and find yourself swaying of all styles of music, this is the class for you! Contemporary Classes at Studio42

This class focusses on the more gentle aspects of dance, with all movements being low impact. Age is no barrier. For those who want to push themselves a bit harder, there is an Adult Combo class that is open to anyone over 20.

Hip-hop is about personal style and expression. These classes will introduce students to the basic vocabulary and style of hip-hop movement. This high energy class can be taught to anyone with a passion to move. We encourage students to do another general class so that they learn the basic dance techniques that are at the core of this style. Performance Classes at Studio42 This class is for senior students with extensive dance experience. This class will explore a variety of dance styles, ranging from stylised dancing to lyrical hip-hop, with the main focus on team work and presentation. Students will be expected to learn pieces in short amounts of time and will be the main performance group representing Studio42dance at any external performances, such as charity events and fundraisers. Students will be given the opportunity to explore their own choreographing styles by working with their fellow students and choreographing dances together.

These classes introduce a structured environment while allowing children to recognise their own individuality and body mobility. Focus is on coordination and rhythm introduced in creative and imaginative ways. Keeping students entertained while learning beginning dance skills will help them to acquire a lifelong love for dance. Pre-Kinder Dance Classes at Studio42

The rhythm and movement of tap, created by the metal taps on the heels and toes of a dancer’s shoes, transforms the dancer into a percussive musician. Tap dance emphasises the flow of movement by teaching the dancer to find rhythms and beats not only in music but in their own bodies. Tap Dancing Classes at Studio42
